Our clients, Dr Chris Raynor, an Orthopaedic Surgeon, and his wife Amanda, a writer and manager, both have long-term experience in fitness and education. It is their goal to create a first of its kind facility where staff from many disciplines work together everyday on how we can achieve a state of wellness through movement for all. To this end H2.0 is an integrated medical/fitness facility whereby the physiotherapist, sports therapist, massage therapist, nutritionist, fitness trainers and surgeon are directly involved with each other, the care of the patients, and all aspects of the facility. Surgery patients are encouraged to rehab using techniques normally only available to elite athletes and non-patients are encouraged to move better and get stronger and more flexible thereby avoiding injury. As with many innovative ideas, budgets are pulled in many directions and time is of the essence. Both cost and schedule were prioritized from the beginning of the design process. It was essential to the client that the clinic and fitness facility open the first week of July and that the budget not be exceeded. Both of these project limitations were met using an open and integrated design process that stressed good communication and respect from all involved; the constructor, the client team, and the design team. Equipment placement planning diagrams were done to assist our client with the final equipment selections and move-in placement.
