National Capital Region YMCA-YWCA

Carlingwood Facility
In September 2013 the National Capital Region YMCA-YWCA leased space in the basement of the Carlingwood Shopping Centre to replace their recently sold Carlingwood building. Based on their recent experience working with Lara McKendrick on the revitalization of their Orleans location, the Y and their Construction Manager, Lundy Construction, approached LMA for this project. They needed a team that could work fast and respect the given budget.   Although the existing space had been a fitness facility it was in very bad disrepair due to years of neglect by the previous tenant. All the design and construction had to be done between October 1st and their January 1st opening date, all within a budget of $31.25 per square foot. To meet the schedule and budget targets, elements that would best improve the space to meet the Y's requirements were identified at the outset thru consultation with all project stakeholders. Early and repeated costing, done collaboratively with the general contractor/construction manager, was a key factor in this project being delivered on time and on budget.   The Carlingwood Mall facility is a very successful location for the National Capital Region YMCA-YWCA. They met their membership numbers shortly after opening and programs are consistently full.
